World Music Day - La Fête de la Musique

A week full of workshops and concerts from Tuesday 14th to Thursday 16th and the final Concert at Fiji Museum on Friday 17th June, from 3pm to 11pm (Free entrance !)


New Caledonia Blues Band on tour

Blues Band from New Caledonia is our special guest for this 2016 edition of World Music Day. Composed of Stéphane Fernandez, Jack Mairai and Jérôme Marchand, they are offering workshops with the National Youth Band (14th), at Suva Grammar (15th) and at Marist Brothers High School (16th).

Two concerts in which they will perform with Elena Baravilala are also scheduled, at Bad Dog Café Damodar on Wednesday 15th from 7pm and at O'Reilly's on Thursday 16th from 9pm (entrance is 5$ and includes a drink).


Final Concert : Friday 17th June - 3pm-11pm - Free entrance

Join us for this amaizing 8 hours concerts gathering the best Fijian artists, FPRA Awards winners, artists from New Caledonia as well as some schools from Suva and amateur musicians, organized by Alliance Française of Suva and the French Embassy, in partnership with Fiji Performing Rights Association.  

Thereby, don’t miss on stage Inside Out, Rako, TheRelatiV, VOU Dance, DJ Christonite, 4 Quarters, Laisa Vulakoro, Tom Mawi, Seru Serevi, Ramnik, Dawn Gospel, and a special music band guest from New Caledonia, Blues Band, which will perform with the Fijian singer Elena Baravilala !

We are also proud to invite a New Caledonian theatre troupe, Pacifique et Compagnie, and of course  FNU Brass Band, Suva Grammar School Choir, Hilton School, and very talented other  musicians and singers : Alitia Marama, Apenisa, Ugatia, Matt Young, Bonvontare and Viliame Yari !

                 

This Music festival has been first launched in 1982 in France by the Ministry of Culture and Communication. The aim is to give free access to music to everyone and everywhere. It is organized every year on Europe Summer’s solstice.

This concept has been then exported to the entire world thanks to the network of Alliance Française. Each year more than 800 cities organize this event in more than 130 countries.

In Fiji, the Fête de la Musique is organized for 16 years now by the Alliance Française of Suva and the French Embassy.
